Adiponectin is the most abundant peptide secreted by adipocytes, whose reduction plays a central role in obesity-related diseases, including insulin resistance/type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease. In addition to adipocytes, other cell types, such as skeletal and cardiac myocytes and endothelial cells, can also produce this adipocytokine.

• Adiponectin, the most widespread adipocyte-derived hormone, is inversely correlated with adipose tissue dysfunction. • In this study, adiponectin was inversely associated with CRP in overweight and obese women only, whereas the adiponectin-CRP association was independent of BMI in previous studies among apparently healthy postmenopausal women [ 28] and women with type-2 diabetes [ 44 ]. 2019-06-03 · Adiponectin is a hormone that is secreted by adipose tissue and may play an important role in obesity-related morbidity. The aim of this study was to investigate total adiponectin levels in overweight and obese UAE subjects visiting health care facilities for weight management.

Recent investigations reported gender differences in the relationship between adiponectin levels and obesity with strong association between low adiponectin plasma levels and obesity among women (EGLIT et al., 2013; PERVANIDOU et al., 2009; URBINA et al., 2009). Adiponectin is an adipocyte-derived hormone with insulin-sensitizing and antiinflammatory properties. Plasma adiponectin levels are reduced in obesity-linked IR [157]. In patients with severe OSA, serum adiponectin was lower compared with those with milder OSA, independent of obesity or abdominal VF [158].

Nevertheless, precise changes in serum adiponectin levels after SC and specific effects of abdominal obesity on those changes remain unknown. The objective of this study was to increase adiponectin levels.11,12 In addition, adiponectin administration was shown to reverse insulin resistance and provide protection from diabetes in an animal model.13 The relationship between obesity and adiponectin may, therefore, lead to the metabolic changes that are frequently associated with obesity. The relationship between clinical the relationships of adiponectin with obesity is yet to be clarified. Recent investigations reported gender differences in the relationship between adiponectin levels and obesity with strong association between low adiponectin plasma levels and obesity among women (EGLIT et al., 2013; PERVANIDOU et al., 2009; URBINA et al., 2009). Adiponectin and obesity

Interactions of genetic factors such as single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in the Adiponectin gene and environmental factors causing obesity result in hypoadiponectinaemia, which appears to play an important causal role in obesity-linked insulin resistance, type 2 diabetes and the metabolic syndrome.

Adiponectin and obesity

The connection between obesity and insulin resistance, type 2 diabetes, and cardiovascular disease is a well researched one. The increasing prevalence of each of these diseases has become a growing concern for the medical community. Adiponectin is a collagen-like plasma protein secreted by adipocytes that has been suggested to play a causal role in the development of insulin resistance and cardiovascular disease. Adiponectin is the most abundant peptide secreted by adipocytes, whose reduction plays a central role in obesity-related diseases, including insulin resistance/type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease.

A plethora of experimental evidence supports the role of obesity and increased adiposity in multiple cancers including breast, liver, pancreatic, prostrate, ovarian, and colorectal cancers. The mean adiponectin level was 21.82 ± 9.93 mg/L for the eutrophic asthmatics, which is a level that was significantly higher than in the overweight (15.31 ± 6.27 mg/L, p = 0.0140) and the obese (16.69 ± 11.45 mg/L, p = 0.0287) patients.

Cigarette smokers are generally known to gain weight after smoking cessation (SC). Nevertheless, precise changes in serum adiponectin levels after SC and specific effects of abdominal obesity on those changes remain unknown.
